Barrafranca (Enna Province) is 35 km from Enna, alt. 450 m, in the Monti Erei, between the torrents Tardara and Braemi, area 53.6 sq km, pop. 13,628, post-code 94012, tel. 0934. Agricultural economy.

This is probably the ancient Hybla Heraia or Galeota or Galatina, later Romanized with the name Callonania.

In Norman times it was called Convincino; it became a fief of the Barresi family around the year 1330. Two hundred years later, Matteo Barresi of Pietraperzia further developed the town, rebuilding parts of it, and gave it its present name.
