Ali' Terme (Messina Province) is 27 km from Messina, alt. 9 m, on the Ionian Sea, on the River Alcantara, area 6.1 sq km, pop. 2,423, post-code 98021, tel. 0942. Agricultural economy: cereals, fruit, olives. Seaside and thermal tourism.

The town orginiated from the hamlet of Antiddu, which belonged to the town of Savoca; it developed because of the fame of its thermal springs, already well known in the 18th century.

It became an autonomous town in 1910, with the name of Ali' Marina. Autonomy was revoked from 1928 to 1946, and in 1954 it assumed its present name, which underlines its vocation as a seaside and thermal tourist resort.

A round tower, on a rock sheer above the sea, marks the entrance to the modern town.

Churches (Messina Diocese) include the following:

San Rocco (Chiesa Madre)

My latest book on CD is titled Sicily - A Reference for Researchers and is now available. With a file for each town (plus many other files), it relates the history of Sicily as reflected in the photos, records and festivals of its towns. It contains over 2500 text and photo files and can be ordered at CD order.
