Altavilla Milicia (
Palermo Province) is 24 km. from
Palermo, alt. 73 m., not far from the Tyrrhenian coast, east of Capo Zafferano, area 23.8 sq. km., pop. over 5100, post-code 90010, tel. 091. Economy: agriculture, tourism.
Of interest is the Baronial Palace and the Chiesa Madre, built in the 17th century on the site of a earlier mansion. Both the church and the palace are located on a cliff with a wide view over the coast and the sea.
Nearby is the historic ruin of Chiesa di San Michele, built by the Hauteville (Altavilla) family whose name was given to the town.
Festa of Madonna of Milicia is celebrated in Altavilla Milicia on the second Sunday in September.
