Agrigento Province) is 66 km. from
Agrigento, alt. 503 m., on the Monti Sicani, on the southern slopes of Pizzo di Naso, area 88.6 sq. km., pop. over 5000, post-code 92010, tel. 0922. Agricultural economy: citrus fruit, wheat, olive oil, vegetables.
The earliest references to Bivona is 1172, the hamlet was ceded to the Genoese Admiral Giovanni Corrado De Aurea in the 14th century. He built a castle there. A long and bloddy quarrel followed between the Peraltas of Sciacca and the De Lunas of Bivona, culminating in the massacre of the inhabitants of the town in 1529.
