Brolo (Messina Province) is 91 km from Messina, alt. 8 m, on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Capo d'Orlando and Capo Calava, area 7.9 sq km, pop. 5,211, post-code 98061, tel. 0941. Economy: agriculture (citrus fruit, cereals, olives, grapes), boat building and light metalwork.

The town developed around the Lancia Castle; it had very busy port until the end of the 17th century when it became silted up, after the floods of 1593 and 1682, by the mountain torrents that flow around the outskirts of the town.

Of interest: medieval castle; luminaria di luccu and celebrated on the first Sunday in September.

Our Lady of the Assumption (Chiesa Madre, founded 1764)
