Caltavuturo (Palermo Province) is 79 km. from Palermo, alt. 635 m, in the central Madonie, on the southwestern slopes of Rocca di Scaria, area 97.2 sq. km., pop. over 4,900, post-code 90022, tel. 0921. Agricultural economy.
The ancient nucleus of the town was to the north, on the Terravecchia hill, before the 9th century. It was fortified by the Arabs and the Normans and took on an important strategic role. The modern town developed in the area known as the Terranuova, from the 17th century onwards.
