Cammarata (Agrigento Province) is 56 km. from Agrigento, alt. 680 m., on the Monti Sicani, on a rocky spur northeast of Mt. Cammarata, area 192 sq. km., pop. over 6400, post-code 92022, tel. 0922. Economy: agriculture, animal farming, metal-works and furniture manufacture.
Probobly Arabic in origin, the town was given by Count Roger de Hauteville to a kinswoman named Lucia "de Camaratae". It was later a fief of the Maletti, Vinciguerra, Moncada, Abatellis and Pranciforte families.
This is a holiday mountain resort and a nature reserve.
