Casmene (Kasmenai) (Siracusa Province) is the second defensive colony founded by Greek Siracusa, about 50 km away, between Giarratana and Palazzolo Acreide, near Monte Erbesso.
There are traces to be seen of a Bronze Age village, the boundary wall and the layout of the Greek city, with parallel streets, and the site where a temple was found, with a votive chest containing numerous weapons. The material found dates to between the 6th and the 4th centuries BC.
