Cassibile (Siracusa Province) is 4 km south of Siracusa where on 3 September 1943 the armistice was signed between Italy and the Allies.
The river of the same name flows a little further south for a distance of about 30 km. The Greeks called it Kakyparis.
On its banks Demosthenes surrendered to the Siracusans in 413 BC.
Churches (Siracusa Diocese) include the following:
S. Giuseppe (Chiesa Madre)

My latest book on CD is titled Sicily - A Reference for Researchers and is now available. With a file for each town (plus many other files), it relates the history of Sicily as reflected in the photos, records and festivals of its towns. It contains over 2500 text and photo files and can be ordered at CD order.
