Eloro (Helorus) (Siracusa Province) is the remains of an ancient city, certainly those of Helorus, are about 8 km from Noto, on the southeast coast of Sicily. Helorus was probably one of Siracusa's first foundations and this is confirmed by findings of late 8th century BC Greek ceramics. Following the treaty stipulated between Hieron and the Romans, Helorus was included in the territory of Siracusa. Cicero informs us that Verres despoiled the city of all its riches, after which it began slowly to decline. It stood on a hill a few meters above sea level and was surrounded by a boundary wall.
