Gole Dell'Alcantara (Messina Province) is in the hinterland between Taormina and Giardini Naxos. To visit the gorge, we descend to the level of the river, either on foot or, less poetically, by lift. The wild scenery, with the high rocky walls of the gorge and the water running between our legs (rubber wading boots can be hired), is comparable to any of the other great natrual beauties of the world.
