Joppolo Giancaxio (Agrigento Province) is 14 km. from Agrigento, alt. 275 m., on a highland between two valleys, near the upper valley of the River Akgragas, area 19.2 sq. km., pop. over 1400, post-code 92010, tel. 0922. Economy: agriculture (wheat, broad beans), stone quarrying.

It was founded in 1693 in the Giancaxio fief by Calogero Gabriele Colonna, who recieved the estate from his wife Donna Rosalia Ioppolo. A fief of the Colonnas until 1812, it was then part of Aragona until 1890. It belonged to Raffadali from 1892 to 1926, when it became an autonomous comune.

Of interest is the Castle (18th century) which is now private property.
