Mirto (Messina Province) is 120 km from Messina, alt. 428 m, in the northern Nebrodi, on the spur east of the Serria di Favara, are 9.4 sq km, pop. 1,233, post-code 98070, tel. 0941. Economy: agriculture (traditional crops and animal farming), marble quarrying.
Possibly of medieval origin, Mirto is recorded in the 14th century as being part of the Bishop's see. For some centuries it was a feud of the Filangeris, who in 1643 obtained the title of Princes.
