Monforte San Giorgio (ME)
Monforte San Giorgio (Messina Province) is 38 km from Messina, alt. 287 m, in the northern Peloritani, at the foot of a rocky highland between the Rivers Niceto and Monforte, area 32.3 sq km, pop. 3,212, post-code 98041, tel. 090. Economy: limited agriculture, limestone and coalmining.
The town developed around the castle - some ruins still remain - built by Frederick II by Swabia.
As a feud it belonged to, among others, the Alagnas, the Valguarneras and the Moncadas.
