Montedoro (
Caltanissetta Province) is 33 km from
Caltanissetta, alt. 450 m, in the hills between the Rivers Platani and Salso, on the southwest slopes of Monte Ottavio, on the left bank of the River Gallo d'Oro, area 14.14 sq km, pop. 1,989, post-code 93010, tel. 0934. Agricultural economy: wheat, grapes.
Founded in 1635 by Diego Aragona Tavaglia; from the 18th century until 1812 it was a fief of the Pignatelli family, who increased its population with inhabitants from
Racalmuto,
Serradifalco and other nearby villages.
