Monterosso Almo (Ragusa Province) is 28 km from Ragusa, alt. 691 m, in the central sector of the Monti Iblei, on the southwest face of Monte Lauro, area 56.3 sq km, pop. 3,506, post-code 97010, tel. 0932. Economy: Agriculture (wheat, vegetables, olives, almonds, fruit, walnuts), cattle farming.

The original Norman village of Monte Iahalmo developed in the 14th century with the construction of the castle by Enrico Rosso, Count of Aidone. The village belonged to the County of Modica from the 16th to the 18th century; destroyed by the earthquake in 1693, it was rebuilt higher up on the plain at the top of the mountain.
