Pace del Mela (Messina Province) is 38 km from Messina, alt. 114 m, in the hinterland of the Gulf of Milazzo, on the left bank of the Muto torrent, at the northern extremity of the Peloritani, area 12.10 sq km, pop. 5,737, post-code 98042, tel. 090. Traditional agricultural economy.
Pace Inferiore (Lower Pace) developed around the Chiesa della Madonna della Grotta, founded by Filiberto of Savoy and Francesco del Mela; for many years it belonged to the church of Messina.
Pace Superiore (Upper Pace) was part of the diocese of Santa Maria del Mela, from the 18th century It became independent of this commune in 1921, and took its present name.
