Piedimonte Etneo (
Catania Province) is 44 km from
Catania, alt. 348 m, in the northeast foothills of
Mt. Etna, overlooking the Fogliarino valley, area 26.5 sq km, with a population of over 3,900, post-code 95017, tel. 095. Economy: agriculture (wine, grapes, etc), wood handicraft, tourism.
The town was founded in 1687 by Prince Ignazio Ferdinando Gravina di Palagonia in a place called Belvedere, now the name of a square.
