Rometta (Messina Province) is 40 km from Messina, alt. 560 m, in the hinterland of the Gulf of Milazzo, in the foothills of the northern Peloritani, area 32.5 sq km, pop. 6,409, post-code 98043, tel. 090. Economy: agriculture and tourism.
The name of Rometta is recorded before the year 800 (the name then was Rametta), and it was the last town to fall to the Arabs, in 965. It was subsequently part of the domain of Count Roger.
