Rosolini (Siracusa Province) is 48 km from Siracusa, alt. 154 m, on the southeast extremities of the Hyblaean Mountains, between the natural caves Grande and Sardina, area 76.2 sq km, pop. 21,175, post-code 96019, tel. 0931. Economy: agriculture, stock-breeding, small resin and carpentry industries.
A town in feudal times, and a settlement in the late Imperial Roman and Byzantine ages, in the 15th century it was a fief of the Platamones, and in the 18th of the Moncadas, who in 1713 founded the modern town.
Of interest: Palazzo dei Platamone, 1668; About 2 km from the town, on a mountainous crag, traces have been found of a Sicel settlement; A Bronze Age Necropolis with some Christian catacombs.
