San Mauro Castelverde (PA)
San Mauro Castelverde (Palermo Province) is 120 km. from Palermo, alt. 1,050 m., in the Madonie, in the western sector of Monte Canalicchio, area 114.2 sq. km., pop. over 2,500, post-code 90010, tel. 0921. Economy: agriculture, stock-breeding.
A Byzantine fortress, and possibly previously a Greek settlement, after the 14th century it became a fief of Ventimiglia family who encouraged its development.
In the highest part of the town are the ruins of an ancient castle, possibly of Byzantine origin. The town hall houses a small anthropological museum.

S. Maria de Francis (enlarged in 1634)
