San Piero Patti (Messina Province) is 92 km from Messina, alt. 448 m, in the northern Nebrodi, on the hinterland on the confluence of the Urgesi and the Timeto torrents, area 41.6 sq km, pop. 3,890, post-code 98068, tel. 0941. Agricultural economy.
Of very ancient origin, it may correspond to the Greek city of Petra, recorded in the 4th century BC. It was captured by the Arabs (an area of the town is still known as Arabita). Under the Normans numerous Lombards settled here. In 1320 it became a fief of the Manna family, passing to the Corvinos five centuries later. Until 1912 it was called San Pietro sopra Patti.
