Sant'Alessio Siculo (Messina Province) is 38 km from Messina alt. 15 m, on the Ionian coast near Capo Sant'Alessio, area 6.7 sq km, pop. 1,394, post-code 98030, tel. 0942. Agricultural economy.
This little village grew around the medieval fortifications on Capo Salt'Alessio; it belonged to the Paterno Castello family, among others. It has been an autonomous commune since 1948, when it split off from Forza d'Agro.
The old Norman castle, restored in the last century, stands high on the cape. The battlements of this elegant stronghold can easily be seen from the State road from Messina as it approaches Taormina.
A popular excursion is to Mazzaro and Taormina first, followed by a visit to Sant'Alessio, the castle and the village.
