Santa Lucia del Mela (ME)
Santa Lucia del Mela (Messina Province) is 46 km from Messina, alt. 215 m, on the northwestern Peloritani, on the north face of Monte Melia, between the Mela and Floripotena torrents, area 82.9 sq km, pop. 5,072, post-code 98046, tel. 090. Agricultural economy.
Its existence has been attested since Norman times; it later spread during the reign of Frederick II of Swabia, who sojourned here. In 1322 Frederick II of Aragon encouraged Lombards to settle here. At all times it belonged to the royal domain.
