Santo Stefano di Camastra (Messina Province) is 153 km from Messina, alt. 70 m, on the Tyrrhenian coast, west of Capo d'Orlando, on the right of the mouth of the River Santo Stefano, area 21.9 sq km, pop. 5,167, post-code 98077, tel. 0921. Economy: handmade pottery, agriculture, fishing.

The modern town was founded, with licentia aedificandi, by Giuseppe Lanza, Duke of Camastra, one year after a landslide destroyed the old town of Santo Stefano di Mistretta, which dated from the early Middle Ages.

The town, situated nearer the coast in an area rich in clay quarries, took its modern name in 1812.
