Saponara (Messina Province) is 23 km from Messina, alt. 160 m, in the hinterland of the Gulf of Milazzo, in the foothills of the Peloritani, on the banks of the Carda torrent, area 26 sq km, pop. 4,137, post-code 98047, tel. 090. Agricultural economy.
A little town of feudal origin, the domain of the Alliata family, among others. From 1929 to 1952, it was a ward of Villafranca Tirrena.
