Sofiana (Caltanissetta Province) is a country area about 12 km east of Mazzarino (Caltanissetta). A Roman-Byzantine settlement has been found here (the military station of Philosophiana), containin ruins of a modest thermal building and a remarkable Byzantine basilica with one have and two aisles.
Material from the excavations is displayed in the Gela Archaeological Museum (see Gela).
