Trappeto (Palermo Province) is 39 km. from Palermo, alt. 25 m., east of the coast of the Gulf of Castellammare, area 4.2 sq. km., pop over 3000, post code is 90040, tel. 091. Economy: agriculture, fishing.

The town developed in the 16th century. Its name comes from the "trappetum cannamellarum" built here in the 15th century by Francesco Bologna for the processing of sugar cane, widely cultivated on the banks of the nearby River Nocella. In 1985, a number of renown painters created as series of large wall paintings along the road leading to the beach.

My latest book on CD is titled Sicily - A Reference for Researchers and is now available. With a file for each town (plus many other files), it relates the history of Sicily as reflected in the photos, records and festivals of its towns. It contains over 2500 text and photo files and can be ordered at CD order.
