Villafranca Sicula (Agrigento Province) is 67 km. from Agrigento, alt. 330 m., in the valley of the River Sosio, area 17.7 sq. km., pop. over 1600, post-code 92020, tel. 0925. Agricultural economy: wheat, olives, fruit, almonds, grapes.

The village was founded in 1499 by the Alliata family who had acquired the land in 1496 from the monastery of San Giorgio di Triocala. They obtained the title of Prince in 1609 and were its feudal lords until 1812.

Churches (Agrigento Diocese) include the following:
Maria SS. della Catena (Chiesa Madre, 16th century, severly damaged in the 1968 earthquake and formerly dedicated to Madonna del Mirto)
Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (16th century, historic)
Chiesetta del Carmine (16th century, historic)
