The provincial archives house the notarial records, some as early as the 4th century. They are contracts for businesses, land sales and disputes, and marriages. The marriage contracts identify the bride and groom and their parents and towns of origin. The records are arranged by town, then by notary, then by the years of the volume. Some volumes are indexed. One great resource is the 17 volume set of notarial indexes of Jewish names for Sicily, based on Inquisition lists (The Jews in Sicily by Shlomo Simonsohn). They include records for 383-1497, indexed for all names, abstracted, and translated to English. Images of some contracts included.
