Poggioreale (Trapani Province) is 65 km from Trapani, alt. 189 m, in the Upper Belice Valley, near Monte Castellazzo, area 37.5 sq km, pop. 1,820, post-code 91020, tel. 0924. Agricultural economy.
An archaeological area (it can be visited) possibly dating from the 7th century BC has been identified on Monte Castellazzo. The town of Poggioreale (alt. 393 m), founded in 1642 at the foot of the mountain by Francesco Morso, was severely damaged by the earthquake in 1968 and abandoned; from a distance it looks intact. Town rebuilt nearby, lovely festival during Feast of San Giuseppe in March, each year.
